The WINGS (Weather Information and Guidance System) mobile application has been developed by the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), a Research and Development (R&D) organisation under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India.
The WINGS mobile application provides a convenient and user-friendly interface for accessing operational weather products and services available through the official NCMRWF website and associated digital platforms. These include Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) forecast guidance, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML)-based products, satellite-derived information, real-time mesoscale analysis, GIS-based services and other specialised meteorological products.
The application does not generate or disseminate an independent weather forecasting service. It serves solely as an official mobile platform for accessing products already produced and disseminated by NCMRWF.
1. Information Collection
The WINGS application is designed to collect only the minimum information necessary for providing its services.
- Location Information (Optional): When permitted by the user, the application may access the device location to provide weather information relevant to the user's current location.
- Technical Information: Limited technical information such as device model, operating system version, application version and diagnostic logs may be collected to improve application performance and reliability.
- Usage Information: Anonymous application usage statistics may be collected solely for improving the functionality and user experience of the application.
The application does not intentionally collect personally identifiable information such as name, mobile number, email address, postal address, financial information, Aadhaar number or passwords.
2. Purpose of Information Collection
- To provide weather forecasts and meteorological guidance.
- To display location-specific weather products where location permission is granted.
- To improve application performance and reliability.
- To identify and resolve technical issues.
- To enhance user experience.
3. Location Permission
Location permission is optional. Users may choose whether or not to grant location access. If permission is granted, the application uses the device location solely for displaying relevant weather products. Users may revoke this permission at any time through their device settings.
4. Data Sharing
NCMRWF does not sell, rent or use user information for commercial purposes.
Information collected by the application is not shared with third parties except where required under applicable laws, Government regulations or lawful directions issued by competent authorities.
5. Data Security
Reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards are implemented to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. While every reasonable effort is made to secure information, no electronic storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
6. Third-Party Services
The application may utilise standard services provided by the Android platform or authorised technology providers for essential functionality, diagnostics or performance monitoring. Such services operate under their respective privacy policies.
7. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time in accordance with Government policies or operational requirements. Any revisions will be published on this page together with the updated revision date.

The weather products and the conclusions drawn therefrom are generated using Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models run at NCMRWF.
